#6. Can I Draw a Cartoon with AI? The Hype vs. Reality (ft. 4-Panel Comic Experiment)
Is AI Cartoon Creation Really Possible?
Over the past few days, that Studio Ghibli-style ChatGPT trend has taken over YouTube and social media.
From AI-generated illustrations to full video content โ itโs honestly amazing.
But then I saw something even more surprising:
โYou can create a 4-panel cartoon using ChatGPT.โ
Wait, what?! A cartoon?!
As someone whoโs constantly racking her brain for blog content, this was the kind of challenge I couldnโt pass up. ๐
So yesโฆ I tried it. Hereโs what happened.
Tools I Used:
I used a combination of ChatGPT and Sora AI tools, aiming to create a short 4-6 panel comic.
I came super prepared:
- Full storyline (in both Korean and English!)
- Dialogue for each speech bubble
- Detailed prompts for the characters (Chu the cat!) and their actions
- Even background setting suggestions
๐งถ The story was simple:
I bought Chu a toyโฆ but of course, she loved the box more. ๐
Classic, right?
And the result?
Let me say this right away:
The part in the YouTube video about โit works in one shotโ?
Absolute nonsense ๐
Hereโs how it really turned out:
- Speech bubbles: Weird gibberish, full of AI typos
- Character design: Chu looked different in every single panel
- Revisions: Either not reflected, or totally off
- Even with individual panel requests: Zero consistency. The whole comic fell apart ๐
Unless youโre hoping for โAI chaos: the comicโ, itโs not quite usable yet.
At least not at the level I was hoping for โ something smooth and cohesive, with no obvious AI weirdness.
So is it hopeless?
Not at all.
When I think back to where AI was just a few years ago,
itโs still mind-blowing how far weโve come.
Going from 0 to 70โ80% feels like a miracle.
But closing that final 20โ30% gap โ thatโs where the real challenge begins.
Kind of like studying:
Getting from 10 to 20 points is doable,
but going from 90 to 100? Thatโs a whole different game.
Will AI ever reach a perfect like 95-100 when it comes to comic creation?
Honestly, Iโm not sure. But Iโm definitely curious to see what comes next.
